This guide provides instructions for the replacement of the Asus GL752VW-DH74 battery.

  1. Begin by putting the needle into the hole in the disk tray.
    • Begin by putting the needle into the hole in the disk tray.

I want to point out that in order to do this step you have to remove the screw holding the CD drive in place first. On top of this if the screw is out very light pulling on the drive will remove it. There is no need for a pry tool or a needle to eject it. To make it easier on yourself I would actually do step 5 first and just be done with all the screws before you take out the CD screw (Which, by the way, step 5 is shown with the CD drive still attached and screwed in which can cause confusion and possible damage if not careful/paying attention).

  3. Pull out disk tray entirely.

I was not able to extract the DVD drive until unscrewing the .8 screw central on the back of the laptop. That one holds the DVD drive.

You have to also remove the screw securing the DVD drive to the case.

On the GL752VW-DH71 you have to remove the screw about 6 inches straight back from the middle of the drive in order to remove the disk drive.

You neglected to mention the removal of the HDD.

You also have to remove all the hard drive screws and remove it from the case. Also remove the one screw near the front right.

There are 10 screws circled in red which need to be removed. Plus the 2 which need to be removed before the panel is removed. (already gone in this picture)

In total I removed: 10 screws from the outside of the case, 3 small screws around the optical drive, 4 screws around the hard drive (remove the hard drive after doing this), and 3 screws near the SSD and RAM which have little triangle arrows on the panel nearby. I was not apply to perform step 6 until this was done.

  6. Use the opening tool to pry the back of the laptop case from the top Use the opening tool to pry the back of the laptop case from the top
    • Use the opening tool to pry the back of the laptop case from the top

Note: carefully remove the back (bottom) lid and lift the front part first, as shown in the picture, as to not accidentally rip the cables connecting the motherboard to the keyboard.

Also be aware that the lid often is somewhat glued in place, and the clip-on that holds the lid in place can easily break.

    Stig Kjørlaug - Antwort

In step 5 I noted that I removed 20 screws total. I was not able to pry off the keyboard until I did this. Be very careful and do not force it. I was not able to remove it with a spudger because it was too thick. A credit card worked well because it was thin and you could slide it carefully along the plastic clips to safely disengage them from the case. Note that your credit card might be damaged in the process so use an expired one or a similar plastic card.

  7. Disconnect the 3 cables connecting the motherboard to the keyboard.
    • Disconnect the 3 cables connecting the motherboard to the keyboard.

Open the safety (lift/turn the black piece of plastic that is pinning the cables in place), and remove (gently pull) the cables from the motherboard (top in the picture).

    Stig Kjørlaug - Antwort

When reassembling, gently push the cable into its respective slot. Each cable has a white stripe on it that should line up parallel to a white border on the motherboard. Each slot also has a very delicate locking hinge that will secure the ribbon cable in place. One the white stripe and white border are lined up, you will need to close that hinge to secure the ribbon cable. Try testing your battery and keyboard before fully locking the keyboard back in place.

Despite the few missing “unscrew” steps, it REALLY helped me. It took quite a bit longer than 20 min as I did not want to wreck something, but overall I could not have changed my battery without this guide. THANK YOU!

Vio Belc - Antwort

Thank you for your help, I now know how to change the battery, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting it see if I would get any power at all but zip, I will look on Ebay to try and buy a battery for it but I hope it’s that as it was working fine then said battery had no charge when I always made sure it never ran out so not sure what the problem was, at first I thought it was the chord but wasn’t that as I changed it.

I have added comments to steps 5, 6, and 7. The biggest piece of advice is just to make sure you have all 20 screws removed before trying to remove the keyboard (the guide does NOT mention all 20 of these screws). This might be more than necessary but I felt safer removing them than risking snapping one of the plastic clips that holds the keyboard in place.
