Was du brauchst

  1. Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement, Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Back Cover Replacement: Schritt 1, Bild 1 von 1
    • Place the device on the workspace so the screen is facing downward.

  2. Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement: Schritt 2, Bild 1 von 2 Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement: Schritt 2, Bild 2 von 2
    • Using the t5 screwdriver from the iFixit Pro Tool Kit, remove all four 5.6mm screws placing them safely on the table.

  3. Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement: Schritt 3, Bild 1 von 3 Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement: Schritt 3, Bild 2 von 3 Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT Battery Replacement: Schritt 3, Bild 3 von 3
    • Grab a spudger from tool kit.

    • Pry open sides of Nuvi gently with spudger (do not rip apart).

    • Use plastic opening tool to pry ribbon slowly from white plastic bar.

    • Separate the two pieces and place them on the table

The ribbon connector is held in place by a white plastic bar that snaps in place. It will pop up when lightly pried from the ribbon side as shown in the photo (the pivot action is on the connector side). Putting it back together is tricky. The ribbon cable has to lie flat in the connector as far back as possible; once this is true then snap the lever flat against the cable and lock it in place.  You might feel a very subtle snap sensation.

I simply can't make this work.

I replaced the battery in my Garmin 2595 and I couldn't get the screen to light up. I called Garmin for assistance and was told that my Garmin's battery could not be replaced and because I broke the seal in the back there was nothing that could be done to correct my problem. Meaning when this Garmin's battery goes bad, you must throw the unit away!!! I tried to explain there are all kinds of videos showing how to replace the battery, but I was told, none of them were from Garmin so there was nothing they could do for me!!!

Yeah, that ribbon clip is impossible to get back into that slot and locked. I found a proper battery, but the unit is now broken because it won't seat at all.

    • Use a nylon spudger to remove battery (do not yank out) (the battery may be glued down, if so pry around the sides of the battery gently and pop out).

    • Carefully pull wire connected to battery from circuit board.

    • Place the battery on table.

    • Replace old battery with a new one.

The battery is glued down, so use of monofilament fishing line (with each end tied to metal washers for handling) in a zig-zag motion underneath will help break the adhesive’s bond.

For connectors in battery and speaker wires to the Mobo, be sure its not the LIFT UP variety, just work a spudger or driver underneath the wires and gently lift up, do not pull the wires away from the connector as in the older design. If you are not sure which you have, try lifting up first,as if it works it works immediately.

The flippin' screws are in so tight it's impossible to get them out. Thanks, Garmin, for designing a disposable GPS!

The battery has a shelf life < 5 years, so if it dies and its not replaced, the unit is still usable but cannot be 'walkable'. USB works lose over 2-3 years to make the unit first unreliable then will break, the USB port needs to be resoldered to the Mobo, they did not design any good mechanical support for the port, its held mostly by solder, which is not solder's purpose. The touch screen can crack with sharp objects so be sure to use only your fingers and get a case to protect it. Its easy to replace, but hard to find the part, you have to buy a spares unit on eBay. Finally the 'lifetime' upgrades of maps and firmware increasingly use more CPU and memory than it becomes so slow to be unuseable, even if you skip years between upgrades. So you effectively cannot upgrade for a lifetime even if your unit is electromechanically sound. If you upgrade too much, just restore to factory and do not upgrade map or firmware thereafter.

The correct replacement battery is a Cameron Sino, model #CS-GMD560SL (p/n 361-00051-02). I bought it from NewPower99.com
