You don’t need advanced sewing skills—just a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine and a few common tools. With careful measuring, cutting, folding, and stitching, you’ll end up with a clean, professional-looking hem.

Use a ruler to measure and mark your preferred length of the shorts with fabric chalk.

Mark an additional line 1 inch below your chosen length to allow room for folding the hem.

Use sharp fabric scissors to cut across each leg along the lower chalk line.

Fold the bottom edge of each leg up 1/2 inch, then fold it again to tuck the raw edge inside.

Pin the fold in place all the way around the leg to keep it secure.

Place the folded edge of one leg under the presser foot of the sewing machine.

Lower the presser foot to the fabric before you begin sewing.
