Einleitung
Cats love to scratch at cloth and furniture. Unfortunately their claws can pull at the threads and ultimately make holes that are unsightly to their owners. Depending on how much damage there is, the task of restoring the couch back to an undamaged condition sounds daunting, but it the process is actually quite simple. This guide uses weaving and trimming as techniques to repair a polyester couch that has been damaged by cats.
Repairing your couch can take anywhere from 45 minutes to multiple hours, depending on how many holes are present. Each hole will take more time to weave over.
This guide requires upholstery needles. Since we are working with couches, it is recommended that you use a curved needle because it is easier to work with when sewing on a surface you can only see one side of. Though, a straight needle will work perfectly fine.
You will also need thread that matches your couch's color and thread thickness as closely as possible for blending the mending in with the couch. A good way to do this is by cutting a small piece of the couch threads off and bringing it to an in-person store to color match it to the threads there.
Following this guide will result in a mended couch, free from cat damage.

Use a pair of scissors or an x-acto knife to remove any large strands of thread.

Use a small razor to clean up any remaining small strands on the couch.

Insert the polyester, or nylon bonded, thread through your heavy-duty upholstery needle.

To knot your thread, first loop the thread around your index finger at least three times.

Pinch the thread with your thumb, and slowly roll the thread off of your fingertip with your thumb

Pinch and pull the thread you just rolled towards you to finalize the knot.

Piercing the needle into a corner of the hole where the stitching is still strong enough to hold the thread.

Pull the thread all the way through until it hits the knot.

Pierce another hole directly vertically straight across from your first hole.

Pull the thread all the way through.

Pierce the next hole vertically across again, but one thread-width to the side of the previous holes. Pierce back-to-front.

Pull the thread all the way through.

The next hole will go vertically straight across and front-to-back.

Repeat making parallel lines of stitches until the area of the hole is covered by vertical stitches.

Wherever your last stitch ended, pierce a hole at the closest corner of the entire stitching. Pull the thread all the way through.

Push the needle over and under the vertical threads, alternating each thread.

Pierce the needle into the cloth front-to-back, then make another hole offset vertically back-to-front.

Pull the thread through and weave the needle across the vertical stitches again.

End the stitch with a hole that pierces beside it and begins the next stitch.

When the entire area is woven over, tie a simple knot at the end and cut off the excess thread.

You've now mended your couch!
