Use this guide to reinforce the cross stretcher of a wooden chair.

The size of screw may vary with specification of the chair legs you are reinforcing. Be sure that your drill bit, screw driver and screw are the same size.

Flip the chair upside down.

Verify that your screw is able to get through the cross diagonally and fit in the upright leg of the chair.

Place a tape on the end of the cross bar.

Mark the drill spot.

Measure the desired depth of the vertical drilling.

Tape the drill bit according to the depth measurement.

Drill the chair vertically from the surface of the marked spot on the tape.

Stop drilling once the tape on the drill bit reaches the surface.

Remove the tape from the drill bit.

Mark the drill bit with tape again to match the screw's length.

Align the drill bit diagonally and into the previously drilled hole, so the new intended drill path crosses both the cross-stretcher and the chair leg.

Drill diagonally into the cross-stretcher and chair leg, and stop when the tape mark on the drill bit is reached.

Pull out the drill while the drill is still on to avoid breaking the drill bit.

Place the screw into the diagonal hole.

Using either a screw driver or drill with a Phillips screwdriver, place the screw in diagonally.

Remove the tape.
