Einleitung

If your Mac laptop is running hotter then you would like, this guide will show you how to install rubber feet that will lift the laptop up to reduce your average operating temperature.

Read me: While this guide will help reduce the temperature your Mac runs at, early systems (2006-2012 MacBook/MacBook Pro) will still run hot. This is a result of Apple recycling hot air to cool these systems and not putting vents on the chassis to let this hot air escape the laptop. While this is fixed on the Retina, they are thin enough they can still trap system heat.

(MacBook Pro only) Since 13" models lack a dGPU, these systems are not as bad in terms of temperature. However, this can still be used to reduce the temperatures to a lesser degree.

The author used a Early 2009 MacBook Pro 17" for this guide. Prior to applying different feet, the system regularly ran at 180° F. After this change, the system seen a 58° temperature drop and was reduced to 122°.

  • Identify where you would like to place your new rubber feet. The ideal place to put the new feet is next to the existing feet from the factory. Avoid placing the new feet on curved edges.

  • Clean the surface of your laptop with rubbing alcohol or a similar cleaner.
