How to repair the ventilation fan in your stove

Was du brauchst

    • Pull the power plug out of the wall socket so the appliance is completely isolated from the mains.

    • Never work on any electrical appliance that is still connected to energy.

    • Remove the rack, side rails and any other loose accessories from the cavity.

    • A dirty oven simply shows good cooking and does not affect this repair.

    • Undo the four screws that secure the round cover behind the fan inside the cavity.

    • Lift the cover away to expose the convection fan.

    • The blade should spin freely; resistance indicates the motor needs service.

    • Slide the built-in oven completely out of the cabinet to expose its metal back.

    • Remove the five screws holding the rear service panel and lift the panel clear.

    • Wear gloves because the sheet-metal edges are razor-sharp.

    • Undo the black housing screws and swing the upper cover open to reach the cooling fan and electronics.

    • Take a photo of the two supply wires for later reassembly.

    • Remove the surrounding ring and the two mounting screws to free the cooling assembly.

    • Cleaning this fan whenever the oven is open extends the life of the electronics and door seals.

    • Hold the blade steady and loosen the 10 mm nut by turning it clockwise because it is a left-hand thread.

    • Slide the blade and nut off the motor shaft and keep them safe.

    • Pinch the anti-vibration sleeve and pull the green-yellow earth strap off the motor tab.

    • Photograph the blue and white leads, then remove both spade connectors.

    • Undo the three long Phillips screws that clamp the thermal cut-out bracket to the motor.

    • Keep the thermal cut-out wired and remember its exact position for reassembly.

    • Lift the motor straight out of the rear housing.

    • If the shaft only feels stiff, lubricate the bushings; if the motor has play or is burnt, source a replacement.

    • Used parts from similar older ovens can be excellent donors when new spares are unavailable.

    • Apply a single drop of machine oil to each bushing where the shaft enters the housing.

    • Spin the shaft until it turns freely; wipe away excess oil to prevent dripping when the oven heats up.

    • Place the motor back in the housing, align the thermal cut-out bracket and tighten its screws.

    • Reconnect the blue lead to the inner terminal, the white lead to the outer terminal and press the earth strap back on.

    • Vacuum dust from the upper fan blades and scrub the vanes with a brush, minding the sharp edges.

    • Add a tiny drop of oil to the shaft and spin the fan to distribute the lubricant.

    • Return the fan to its original position in the housing.

    • Hook the cooling assembly into the chassis and reinstall the two black screws.

    • Route the wires exactly as photographed and ensure the connectors seat fully.

    • Close the service panel and reinstall all black frame screws.

    • Hang the bottom edge of the rear panel into its slot and drive in the remaining screws on top and middle.

    • Slide the oven back into the cabinet and secure it with its mounting screws.

    • Tape the glass door shut or have a helper support it to avoid broken glass when tilting the oven.

    • Install the circular fan cover, side rails and rack inside the oven.

    • A spotless cavity is optional; flavour matters more than shine.

Abschluss

The fan now spins freely and the oven is ready for reliable convection cooking and safe cooling. Keep photos and notes for the next service and remember a quick clean and lubrication can greatly extend the life of these small motors.
