Einleitung

If your Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Generation does not respond when you use the fingerprint scanner, use this repair guide to replace it.

A functional fingerprint scanner allows the user to log into their device or access private information without entering a password or pin. Though it is not required for the laptop to function, it is a feature that provides easy and smooth accessibility to the device.

Make sure to use non-metallic equipment to follow the guide.

  1. You MUST go to BIOS settings (F1 on startup) and disable the built-in battery. Disconnect laptop from power source to avoid electric shocks. Flip the laptop over on a flat surface with the back panel facing up.

    • Remove five 5mm Phillips #0 screws from the edge of the back panel.

    • Insert an opening tool between the back panel and edge. Maneuver the tool around the panel, disconnecting the clips holding the panel in place.

  3. Remove five 5mm Phillips #0 screws from the edges of the battery.

  4. Remove the connector between the battery and the motherboard by using an opening tool to initially lift the back end of the connector up. Avoid metal tweezers to remove the connector as metal to metal contact can damage the device.

  8. Unclip the connector ribbon from the fingerprint scanner by lifting upwards on the clip with an opening tool.

  9. Remove one 3mm screw from the fingerprint scanner mounting bracket with a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

    • Lift the fingerprint scanner mounting bracket upwards to remove it.
