Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement

Was du brauchst

  1. Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement, Prepare: Schritt 1, Bild 1 von 1
    • Start by extending/removing the cable so you can access the sides of the plastic body of the charger

    • Use a Jimmy or metal spudger to start separating the case. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to separate without cracking two pieces apart.

    • I found it easiest to start on the sides with the cables, gently expanding the case by using the hole surrounding the cable

    • With the 'top' LED side removed, and the cable extended, there is still a middle ring holding the case together. Lift it from the left side pictured, and carefully lift the right side of the cable from the plastic holder (that's part of the middle ring) to fully remove the middle ring section.

    • Note, you don't need to remove the middle, but I found it easier to access the batteries this way.

    • Second photo: close up of metal bracket and holder, on right in first photo.

    • Removing the middle ring removes the friction holding the power button in place. Mine fell out when I flipped the charger over. Re-insertion is easy by loosening the screws, and the button can only be inserted one way, indicated by a notch.

  4. Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement: Schritt 4, Bild 1 von 1
    • The batteries displayed prior to removal of the middle section.

    • I contacted Native Union for support identifying or sourcing the battery, but they indicated they were custom. I opted for 10280 batteries that are the same diameter and slightly shorter than the original.

    • Desolder and remove the original batteries.

  5. Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement: Schritt 5, Bild 1 von 1
    • Solder in the new batteries. Note that leads will likely need to be slightly longer.

  6. Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement: Schritt 6, Bild 1 von 1
    • Replace the middle ring, taking care to place the metal bracket in its plastic holder in the frame so the power button pushes properly.

  7. Native Union Jump Cable (Lightning) Battery Replacement: Schritt 7, Bild 1 von 1
    • Test the device is working by pressing power to confirm the LED(s) turn on, and test power by connecting USB

    • Once satisfied, lightly apply glue to the top section, and push it into place. Tape case together to help glue set.
