Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 Lens Micro-USB Port Type B Replacement

Einleitung

This guide will show you how to replace the micro-USB type B port on the side of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717’s rotating lens body. While this repair has a very simple procedure to fix, there are several factors to take into consideration when performing the repair. These factors include making sure not to damage the exposed circuitry and making sure that there is no power in the camera.

Be sure to remove the the battery before beginning to prevent damage to the camera.

Remove the battery before beginning.
Remove the three screws from the side of the lens using a JIS #000 screwdriver.
Remove the longer single screw from the bottom of the lens using a JIS #000 screwdriver.

Remove the housing over the lens circuit board.
When removing the housing from over the circuit board, be cautious of static when touching the circuit board as to not fry any necessary components.

Unplug the micro-USB type B port from the main circuit board in the lens.
When handling the flex cable, be careful as to not destroy this delicate part and cause damage to other components.

Set the camera aside.
Remove the two JIS #000 screws connecting the micro-USB type B port to the housing frame.

Remove the damaged micro-USB type B port by lightly pulling near the cable connector.
Remove the micro-USB port from the case and replace it with a new micro-USB type B port.
