Was du brauchst

  1. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Fan Replacement, Loosen Cover Screws: Schritt 1, Bild 1 von 1
    • Loosen the seven cover screws. They will not come out.

  2. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Fan Replacement, Remove Cover: Schritt 2, Bild 1 von 1
    • Use a spudger to pop loose the cover and slide it off.

  3. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Fan Replacement, Disconnect Battery: Schritt 3, Bild 1 von 1
    • Only use plastic to remove battery connector

    • Gently remove battery connector by pushing with the spudger in the direction of the arrow.

    • Remove four screws holding battery in place and remove battery.

    • The 4 perimeter screws also hold the tow audio speakers in place. And there is a 5th screw dead center of the battery. The battery cable is not easy to remove, nor is it easy to re-connect.

  4. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Fan Replacement, Disconnect Fan Cable: Schritt 5, Bild 1 von 1
    • Use your spudger to open the connector in the direction of the arrow. Carefully remove the ribbon cable

    • These connectors are very delicate. Use care when removing cables.

Hi! Does anybody know where to get the little black clip that fixes the fan cable to the connector? Unfortunately I broke it when I removed the fan. Any other suggestions on how to fix the cable are appreciated.

  5. ThinkPad X1 Carbon Fan Replacement, Remove Fan: Schritt 6, Bild 1 von 1
    • Loosen screws and pull fan up and out of the case.

    • Be sure to apply heat sink paste when putting fan back on CPU

Which generation X1 Carbon is this? I have a 1st Gen and a 5th Gen, neither match this layout. Please updated with the Generation in the title. Thank you.

Great guide. I do recommend ordering the recommended tools, especially the spudger. There isn’t a lot of room to get the battery cable disconnected, so some of my other spudgers weren’t sturdy enough or wouldn’t have fit. My computer is working again and I didn’t have to pay a king’s ransom and wait 3 weeks (hey, I’m in Montana! I’m lucky to find anyone to fix a computer). Thanks!
