Dell Latitude E6540 Battery Replacement
Introduction
'''Note: This guide compliments a [https://meta.ifixit.com/Answers/View/3336/The+major+design+flaws+of+the+MacBook+Pro+Retina+%28technical-updated%29|post I wrote in 2012 on the rMBP in iFixit Meta], so check that out if you want to read it.''' '''This guide is being written as a compliment to this post, just so everyone knows but I figure it could be useful outside of the post on the rMBP.'''
If you own one of these laptops, you will know these things about it
* It's an powerhouse for the money you spend on it(and a even better laptop if you get it refurbished)
* If you get one used, or even a scratch and dent model and it comes with the 6 cell battery, you know this battery is too weak for this laptop. You really need a 9 cell battery to get 4+ hours out of it, otherwise the runtime on battery is bad. This problem is even more evident if yours has the i7-4800MQ/Dual Video motherboards, which mine also has, and it makes the problem worse then it would be with Intel only for graphics.
If you are reading this as a result of my rMBP post in Meta, you have a worn pack, or you need a stronger battery and got it with a 6 cell battery, then this guide is for you. In this guide, I will show you how to replace the battery, and find your Windows COA if you ever need it to reinstall Windows on this laptop computer.
After you read this guide, you should know how to properly replace the battery, and find your Windows COA on this laptop computer. You should also know Dell sells a slice battery you can put into the E-Port on this notebook, but I am not covering installation of this in this guide. This only covers the main battery pack you need to run the laptop on battery. You may need to dig for the slice battery due to new TSA battery restrictions on Dell's website, but you will find it at some point but it was once advertised on the battery page for this laptop. if I manage to dig up a link to the battery, I will link it in the guide somewhere. I think they buried it so people don't get mad if the TSA confiscates these batteries for some ridiculous reason, even though the battery restriction only really affects '''spare batteries''' you travel with.
