Is this the digitizer?

Hello!

im about to do a glass only repair on the Samsung galaxy s6 edge... And i bought the glass without digitizer. now this is my first repair and i know its a very hard repair to do so i went online to find some tutorials just to be sure in what i am doing and i came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zVnFxv7... so i was wondering if what he is pealing off is actually the digitizer? you can find it at 5:05 minutes into the video

All answers is appreciated! Thanks!

I would recommend getting an old S3/S4 and trying to remove the glass without damaging the touch or LCD, if this is your first try.

The S6 edge is a lot more difficult than those models, are you going to use UV glue or OCA to apply the new screen too? UV can cause pressure marks (yellow on a white screen) and OCA will have bubbles unless you get the required layering and vacuum machine (expensive)

Try at your own risk!

No that is not the digitizer. You can see later in the video he is still using the touch screen, therefore, the digitizer is still intact, otherwise the touch functionality wouldn't work anymore. It appears that is a layer of adhesive that holds the glass to the digitizer/LED.

do you tink i should peel that off?

Well in this video it show's it being peeled off, I think if you wanted the new screen to be clean of any glue residue you would have to peel that off, the problem is that layer is directly attached to the digitizer and LED, be extremely patient as that part is very fragile.

That is a screen protector he pulls off at 5:05.

I do LCD refurbishing. I have all of the expensive Chinese machines to do it properly and I still can't get an Edge display done without breaking it. Here is a better video. Its with an S7 but its all the same:

I won't try and talk you out of doing it since you really don't have much to lose but here are some tips:

Notice how they work to get the adhesive off all at once? That is smart. It helps a lot.

Heat is your friend. If you start having to use force, use more heat.

The LCD is glued on like no LCD I've dealt with before. Notice in the video how they have to really force it to get the card under the LCD? I tried being gentle and didn't get far enough under it and ended up separating the LCD.

TAKE YOUR TIME. This is going to suck. You are going to get mad. You will probably question whether you should ever pick up a screwdriver again in your whole life. That's totally normal. Its a crap job.

If you do successfully get the LCD separated, you will need to remove the old glue. Buy some 8022 pol remover off ebay. The stuff is magic. Otherwise you can try the home remedies but you usually end up soaking your backlight through if you use those.

Good luck!
