Color Conversion Kits & PMIC Failure

There appears to be a related concern regarding using non-OEM iPhone 4/4S color conversion kits and subsequent damage to the Power Management Integrated Circuit(PMIC). When these devices are sold, under Product Warranty under the site Yoyobase.com it reads:

Notes: You order products in Yoyobase.com. Product manuals, instructions and safety warnings may not be in destination country languages; the products (and accompanying materials) may not be designed in accordance with destination country standards, specifications, and labeling requirements; and the products may not conform to destination country voltage and other electrical standards, and that the adapters and other standards are correct for your country.

We have had two customers in the last 6 months come to us after performing a DIY conversion on their devices. Given unless an individual has certain experience and knowledge, it is quick for one to presume the customer damaged their device during the conversion. However, both exhibited two different concerns. One being the device would not power on at all, which the diagnosis was inconclusive due to customer not wishing to proceed with any further diagnostics. The second, the device would not recognize any type of dock, USB connection/charging connection. PC workstations would not recognize the device as being attached, and the device would not show it was charging. However, if the device was left off it would charge and would show the battery life percentage increasing and retaining a charge. In addition the panel on the logic board covering the PMIC would overheat.

The third incident was when a customer purchased a conversion kit and brought to our company to perform the conversion. After the conversion was completed the device would not power on. It would not recognize any docking apparatus, and the panel where the PMIC is located would overheat. We are currently awaiting response from this vendor as to any detailed specifications can be provided regarding this aftermarket product compares to standard OEM equipment

We are sure there are some instances whereas a consumer may have performed this conversion with success, but with the consistency of this type of failure that occurs after using said conversion kits brings up question as to what damage is resulting from using this hardware.

If any other organization and/or individual has experienced this similar concern please provide details and those who have not, take this as warning until further information can be gathered to determine if there is any relationship between using these conversion kits and failure of the PMIC.
