Won't boot from internal SATA. Get Question Mark Folder.

I bought a Samsung 256GB 830 SSD to upgrade my HDD with. The previous HDD I had in it was a Samsung 500GB SATA 3.0 drive.

I cloned the drive with CCC and booted from it externally and everything worked fine.

I then installed the drive and got the Question Mark folder. I then put the drive that I had previously been using back in and again got the Question Mark folder.

Both drives will boot externally, but will not boot internally. If I boot externally with either drive the drive that is internal will not show up in disk utility even if I boot to the Lion recovery partition and use disk utility there.

I have tried reseting the PRAM and that did not work. I have verified both drives in disk utility when hooked up externally.

Is my internal SATA cable bad or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Given that both drives are no longer recognized internally I would suspect there is an issue with the HDD cable. When removing the old hard drive and installing the new hard drive did you put any strain on the cable or bend it too far?

I had previously had the old 500GB one put in professionally a few years back and the cable had been glued down to that drive somewhat. I tried to be as careful as possible, but definitely could have done something while getting it off of that.

I just read that cable also gives power to the sleep light and if I put it to sleep that light doesn't come on. So looks like definitely must be the cable.
