Mac running slow and fan running at high speed after water spill.

I have pretty much the same problem as "tristan" did a year ago:

''I recently spilled water on my computer and did not remove the bottom casing, much less the battery, as I now know I should have.

Precisely somes drops of water touched the back of the laptop.

I am able to start the computer and get to my desktop however at start up the fan immediately begins and the computer loads VERY slowly.

Once completely booted, the same continues. I have turned off all "at start up" settings for all apps.''

But the Hardware Test shows an error code slightly different from the one he had:

4SNS/1/0000008:Th1H--124

And these are the stats for my computer:

Any help would be fantastic...

Thank you very much in advance,

edit: I just ran Fan Control and saw that the right fan is at -1rpm while the left is at more than 6000 and at 34.2C, is it just not functioning at all?

Don't mess with any thing on the computer and call a technician or tech support and see if they can help you.

I finally went to a shop called "iClinique" in Brussels where I paid 115 euros to get rid of a tiny quantity of oxidated water on the motherboard. Now it's working perfectly. Hopefully it won't happen again, but if it does I will surely do it myself...

As an Electrical Engineer, this sentence jumped out at me.

"I just ran Fan Control and saw that the right fan is at -1rpm while the left is at more than 6000 and at 34.2C, is it just not functioning at all?"

Having an electrical short on the left fan would cause the fan to go full speed. Which may eventually wear out your fan motor depending on the fan ratings. In addition, if the right fan is going backwards, that means current is flowing through the wrong way! Either the current is being pulled by the other fan or the other fan is producing so much wind, it is driving the other fan backwards a little. OR the right fan "-1" rpm is an error code.

A quick test to verify if this is the problem is to pull out the fan going 6000 rpm. Pull out the fan and turn on the computer, if it allows itself to turn on without a fan. DO NOT leave the computer running for very long... maybe a few minutes... If it begins to work... get a new fan.

If that doesn't work, replace the fan that is going warp speed. OR temporarily plug in another comp fan to see if the same thing happens.

If another fan does not fix the issue, then the electrical short is not in the fan... and you have affectively ruled out the fan being a problem. Now its to the circuit.... Good luck

Sean
