AC power cord light will show green for about 3-4 seconds after plugging in then switch to yellow. Won't charge or run computer.

Does the computer run on battery? If so try another power adapter and see it the computer works properly. If it does you have a bad adapter--if not and the computer works on battery you probably have a bad dc in board. To be on the safe side first reset the pram and pmu. Ralph

Thanks for all the responses. Here's sequence of events. My son, who has had the computer for a couple of years, filled me in on the details. He said the central plug connection on the recharger broke off in the computer and he was not able to either get it out or recharge it. He took it to an Apple store where they tried to remove it with a magnet with no luck. He brought it home and that's where I came in. I had another 65W recharger and plugged it in. I wasn't used to seeing the light change from green to amber that quickly and assumed it was a malfunction. Apparently the retained piece had either loosened or fallen out in transit, was no longer preventing the charger from being plugged in, and I was simply not giving it long enough to recharge before I wrote the original question. It has now recharged and functioning reasonably well.

I doubt that the tip fell out. It more than likely has been pushed deeper into the back cage of the DC IN port. It may cause problems. Keep a close watch for any eletrical problems. Replacing and/or repairing the unit is not to difficult. The center bracket of the back of the port will move out enough to remove the broken tip.

Are you using the original charger that came with the laptop? Chances are that you are using a 45W charger instead of a 65W charger. These computer's cannot run of off 45W chargers. In order to charge your laptop, you need a 65W charger. You can tell what charger you have by looking at the bottom of it, there, you will se either 45W or 65W.
