How do I put the screen on?

Hi, I have been working on an ipod touch for a really long time now. Finally, I have made it to the point where all I need to do is glue the screen on. I tried it once, but it wont sit, and the home button doesnt even touch the electrical home button.

So, what could be the problem? Also, for the next time, what is the best method of putting the screen back on?

Have you removed all the adhesive? You may need to take a heat gun and a knife and remove all the adhesive. You may also have the steel plate held in by 8 screws not fastened down properly if you can gently tilt the screen back and ensure the steel plate is down all the way. It is these few details if overlooked that can make your screen not sit tight. Also one more thing make sure no shards of glass are keeping the screen from sitting down tightly.

Yes, one corner is bent in slightly, but it doesn't look to be the problem. How do I tell if the screws are tight enough? That may be the problem. When we took the steel plate out, a little thing in the bottom left corner stuck to it and came out of place. I am talking about a black box with the red and blue cable attactheed. We tried to put it back into place, and thought we did, but could this be the problem? And if it sits correctly should the home button be pressing on the electric home button? Thanks!

"little thing in the bottom left corner stuck to it and came out of place." Yes, make sure this is sitting back down tight in it's original location.

The steel plate should sit down flat, tight to the circuit board. As far as the screws not all of them are the same size. Did you separate according to size? ifixt does a great job explaining where each screw along with their size goes.

When I posted this, I had put on the adhesive (the 300lse) and attempted to press it down so that it sits in place. it didnt sit properly and the home button didnt get pressed down. Thanks for the help so far. But a few more qauestions: 1. Should I take off all adhesive used when I tried to glue the touch back together. 2. How do I know if the screen will sit properly? Any way to test? 3. What is the best way to put it back together?

Everything AddDumb said is important to pay attention to. Especially the glass shards, I had that problem with mine. One thing I would add is you'll want to make sure that none of the plastic edges are folded inwards. When I took mine apart I damaged the plastic that runs between the housing and the screen, and as such it wouldn't sit properly until they were all vertical.

If these don't work, describe your problem in more detail. Do some sections of the screen fit better than others? Did you replace just the digitizer, or the lcd, or both together? Are you using the right adhesive?

Before you put the screen in for real I'd fix that corner. It'll create issues for you, but it's probably not the cause of this. You can tell if the screws are tight enough by how tight they are. You want them to be snug, not tight.

That little black box is your speaker, and when seated correctly it's inserted into two places. One of them is the speaker grill hole on the bottom side of the left corner, the other is attached to the back of the dock connector. It should be fairly obvious if you're looking for it. Make sure the cables are out of the way as well, and not underneath or above the speaker.

The three home button pieces (the button button, the button below the button and attached to the midframe (steel plate), and the copper connector on the logic board) should all be touching, but not necessarily tight enough to be "clicked".

Oh, this just hit me. Did you clean off and reapply all the adhesive and black stuff, especially on the lower part of the midframe around the button?

Yes, i did. What I mean is that when I try to make the screen sit flat like when I glue it with the adhesive, the home button doesn't do anything. The actual home button (the little orange button on the steel frame) works because i checked it. Should this problem go away if the screen sits properly?
