minor water damage but apple won't repair

I purchased a MacBook 13" for my girlfriend's birthday a few months ago and she spilled a "small" amount of water onto the keyboard. i live in a different state so i couldn't help her, but she turned it off and let it dry for several days (she didn't remove the battery however despite my suggestion to remove it)....

after the few days she turned it on and it worked except that the mouse was a little funny and the battery didn't seem to charge anymore. the battery has since waned to the point that she can't turn it on.

any ideas?? apple will only repair it for 1300$ :(

The first thing I would do is remove the battery. Are you near the machine now? If so I would open it up and check for corrosion of any sort. Check connections in particular and reassemble and test without the battery. If all is well inspect the battery for swelling or other damage. If it looks good you can try it but be ready to remove it if there are problems. Good luck Ralph

Did you call Apple or go in to the store? I took my unibody 13" MBP in to the store, immediately told them it had liquid damage, and they said it would be $755 for a flat repair fee. I didn't think they did that for liquid damage, but he said they would. Maybe speak to someone else?

After being quoted the price, the Genius said to just take it apart, clean it out, and see how that works (it still boots up, keyboard and trackpad are a little off but that's it).
