iTunes error -1 while restore

iTunes error -1 while restore

My iPhone4 all of a sudden started giving alerts that my phone is deactivated. To activate connect it to iTunes. I did that and was updating iOS6. The restore failed and gave error -1. I have tried all the ways of upgrading but with every restores fails giving iTunes Error -1. What goes wrong here? The phone was not dropped/no water etc.

Apple support says its a hardware issue. But how can hardware go wrong just by itself, that too during an iOS upgrade?

Hi. First thing you can do is check out this general troubleshooting page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

If there is nothing there that helps fix the problem, unfortunately, there is no better answer than you'll have to send it to Apple for fixing.

Regarding the last question there; Hardware, mainly the ROM, is updated from time to time when major iOS updates are release. It is a very rare occurrence, but it can happen, and it does happen. Apple are the only people that can help you with this problem.
