Top case stuck @ 2 points: bottom left & over optical drive

I'm trying to remove the top case on my MacBook Core 2 Duo so I can investigate whether I need to replace the fan, but the case is getting stuck in two points. The Ifixit guide says to be aware that the case might stick over the optical drive, and it is, but the case is also REALLY stuck on the left corner, right where there's a tiny (nonfunctional, I'm told) screw. Just to make SURE it's nonfunctional, I did take it out :) But the case is still stuck. I hope the answer to this question isn't "just rock it back and forth some more" because I seriously spent 30 minutes trying that earlier today. Any other advice? Thanks...

Remember to remove the two Phillips screws from either side of the outside wall in the battery compartment?

not the ones closest to the battery connector. That corner is "tight" and sliding a spudger from right to left as well as front to back can help pop it lose.

Also I have gotten everything but that corner lose and had to pull up at an angle from the back & right side.

I got those--the sticky/tight part is immediately below the screw on the right. I'm glad to hear that it's not just tight for me; when iFixit's official guide didn't have any note I was afraid I was doing it wrong.

Hi! Be careful, because if you end up lifting the topcase up vertically, you'll bend the metal in the front-left corner, and it will lock and become increasingly difficult to get loose once it's bent. That's why shimmying it back and forth horizontally is the best way to get it loose -- because doing anything other than that just bends the metal pieces and makes the situation worse. If it's already bent, it's worth examining the stuck area closely and straightening out the bent metal with a pair of needle nose pliers.
