Can I replace with a different speed logic board?

Does anyone know if I can replace a Macbook logic board with a different speed one? I have a 2.1, but not many available at a good price. I can get other speeds for decent price.

Is this possible / advisable /reasonable?

Macbook Early 2008 A1181 2.1 Ghz Core 2 Duo

Thanks!

Update

Hi Dan;

The system I'm working on is inop., with a bad logic board.

It's not a question of performance. I'm very familiar with that side of the issue - no problem with that. At this point it's a matter of availability and the possibility of physically putting in a different board. Given your info, I'll probably hold out for a direct replacement.

Thank you.

Tim

If you stick within the series you should be fine. Tip: look at the everymac web site for the systems that came out around the same time. These should all fit and work.

Found a direct replacement board - 2.1 ghz. Will likely add secend drive and/or SSD and max out RAM as usual.

Thanks!

If you have a working system now I would advise doing other things before swapping out logic boards. If you have a dead logic board then it's just a matter of what your willing to pay to get your system running again. Also, you also run the risk of not getting a board that will work in your given system when you use something other than what it came with (series release).

The small incremental clock differences between 2.1Ghz to 2.4Ghz for the fastest Intel Core 2 Duo CPU used in a MacBook in this series, is not enough to offer enough performance benefit given the costs.

A better direction to improve performance here would be maxing the RAM out, a faster spindle HD & larger size, taking out the optical drive and installing an SSD in its place. And better still swapping the HD & SSD around so the SSD has the faster SATA Vs PATA connection.
