Dropped in a salt water pool. Dried in rice. Not turning on

After drying out the phone it tries to power on, but only lasted about 15sec. Others folks wrote they dried their phone successfully. Why is mine not working.? Got a new battery. It heated up hot while trying to use charger. Now nothing. Have it half way apart. Would the salt in the pool water make a difference?

I have managed to remove the motherboard, a miracle in itself. I have gently brushed all surfaces with alchohol. It all looks fine. I will put it back together in the am. But you say not to charge it or turn it on so how am I supposed to see if it works. After the first day in the rice I did try to charge it. It attempted but got hot so I popped the battery. Yesterday after 4 days it started up, but then shut down again. Today I got nothing. When I first got it out of the pool I opened it up and removed the battery, dried it off and left it out in the sun. Probably a big mistake. I kept thinking I should put it in fresh water to flush it but I didn't. Do you think the heat destroyed the phone. I am so bummed. Only had the phone for 95 days so no warrentee and no way I can buy a new one. I have a year and 3/4 left on the contract and thats a long time to go with out this phone. Can one buy a motherboard for less.

First, thank you for accepting my answer. Second, it is not the heat that caused the problem but the salt water causing corrosion on the board. I am sorry if I confused you, of course, after your clean it very thouroughly with 90+% isopropyl alcohol, and to let it air dry for a few hours, you can reinstall your battery. Give it a try, sometimes it takes a few washings to get it back, and sadly enough sometimes it is just to late. The motherboard is somewhat hard to come buy and may cost you more than a new phone too.

It worked like a charm. Thanks a million.

You are very welcome. Best of luck to you.

Oops, right after I activated the phone it died again. What now? Try the process all over again?

Colleen, Rice is great but it does not fix your phone. I may even increase the rate of corrosion as well as build up starches. Great for cooking, not so great for phone repair. The very first thing you want to do, is to no longer charge your phone, or to try and turn it on. This may lead to further damage. Remove the battery and disassemble your phone using this guide. Clean every part, including the connectors on the board as well as on the cabled with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Be diligent about it and clean it well. This does not mean to scrub hard, just rinse in alcohol often. Check for any burned looking or missing components. After that reassemble it and re-evaluate.
