Black screen after replacing power / volume button flex cable.

After soldering in a new power and volume button flex cable, my iPod's LCD won't display anything. The iPod connects and makes sounds when plugged in, but won't show anything on the screen.

I tried disconnecting the battery and that didn't help. I've also tested it with a couple different screens.

What could have gone wrong, and how could I try to fix it?
