Uncooperative Home Button

My home button does not respond like it once used to. Often, or I should say usually I have to press it more than once to get it to respond or press harder than I'd like.

Can it be replaced by itself and/or will that fix the problem?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

No this iPhone 3G has never been taken apart nor is the problem that severe that I'd spend $150 on it. It is annoying enough to want to open it to replace let's say a $50 part or less.

The most frustrating part is sometimes the home button works fine but you never know when so sometimes you have to press hard or hard and long and sometimes a normal press will work.

Has this iPhone been taken apart before? Due to the way the home button in the 3G[S] model is built, contact between the button and its conductive strip is only achieved through the screen portion being reseated perfectly. It could be that a piece of junk has gotten wedged in between the contact and the button- I would check that before you buy any new parts.

I had this issue before with iPhone 3GS and 4. One very simple solution before you think about replacing any part is the following:

You'll need

- acetone

- cotton ear bud

Procedure: use the ear bud to drop 2 drops of acetone in the home button of your iPhone. Immediately, use the same ear bud to press the button down quickly around 20-30 times.

You' then probably notice the button sensibility appearing again.

This is due to the grease from your own fingers starting to accumulate in the button sensor. The acetone will help to dilute that grease.
