Logic Board or Hard drive?

Trying to determine which part is broken. I believe its the drive because it's demise was from a pressure situation and I do not feel or hear it spin up. I just want to be sure because of the obvious reasons, music etc.. I get the the frown face and a depleted battery notification when the USB port is used. Battery has been replaced since, but the same error comes up, the screen still boots which gives me false hope I guess, but still !?! Any suggestions, tests or what not before I spend money on the wrong/right parts in my attempt to save music?

jayk1928, you could try the iPod diagnostics mode. Check on here on how to do that and what the tests mean. You could furthermore purchase a USB-to-Zif adapter, remove your hard drive from the iPod and see if that will let you access your drive. If you can and your drive checks out okay, you will know which part needs to be replaced. To me right now, it does sound like a bad hard drive, so I'd start with that. Hope this helps, good luck.
