Want to replace 1TB WD HDD with 4 TB SSD Hybrid Seagate

Product description on Seagate 4 TB SSD Hybrid 3.5" drive says "To ensure compatibility with the 2009 and 2010 21.5" or 27" iMac, the replacement hard drive must be of the same brand as the original."

Will the Seagate just not work as a replacement for the original WD HD?

Must I install a WD or would the Seagate or other brand work?

If so, does Western Digital make a similar product?

As the product description stated you do need to exchange out Seagate for Seagate and WD for WD. The cable assemblies are different due to the thermal sensors inside the drives.

With that said you can in fact interchange them but you need you then need to replace the cable assembly matching it with the drive you are planning on using (which is an extra cost).

Both Seagate & WD offer SSHD's (hybrid HD's) drives.

I would recommend checking what your system has by looking at the About This Mac > More Info > System Report looking under the Storage breakout copy the model info out and google it to see what you have now.
