Sleep light comes on, no chime no boot.

Hi there.

My MacBook shut down recently doing an iTunes update and did restart but not boot.

I ran AHT and it said this disc cannot be used with this Mac but it is the correct disc that came with the machine.

I did a PMU reset , and it shut down on the second chime and would not boot. No chime no post. The sleep light comes on and stays on, until I power off.

I can hear optical disc activity and nothing happens.

I have tried removing the ram and reinstalling it. And this does not work.

Holding the power button for 20 seconds without battery and power does nothing.

Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Update

Yes , in my case it was a failed GPU. Once reworked / replaced it came back to life.

Did you ever have a solution with this problem?

So you replaced the entire Logic board?

Yes , removed and replaced GPU with a rework station.

Whenever I have had these symptoms with a MacBook it usually had something to do with flaky RAM or one of the RAM slots went bad (soldering) or liquid damage in the past, or dust in the slots obstructing the contacts when RAM is inserted... It could definitly be something completely different! But I might try insterting one ram stick in the lower slot then trying to power it up, then with the same stick try the top slot, and if this doesnt work try the same thing with the other stick of ram... If none of that makes it boot up properly then you just used the process of elimination to verify that the problem is not the ram sticks or the slots.

Hope this helps!
