Both microphones not working after water damage

Hello.

I've got Samsung Galaxy S3 Water Damaged for repair. I've cleaned the logic board very well and the phone works fine, but the both microphones are not working at all. What can be the problem ? Thanks

Dimitris, one important piece of information would be how you cleaned the board, It is possible that the mics failed due to water damage, you could consider replacing those. They are surfaces mounted and require a hot air rework station to replace. The image shows both mics and has the description number on it as well. Hope this helps, good luck.

The part number (BLM15AG121SN1D) in the image is incorrect. That is the part number of a Murata EMI ferrite bead.

Microphones convert mechanical movement (membrane) into a small voltage (inverse function of a speaker), so water likely went inside, and now the membrane does not vibrate any more and hence the microphone does not work. If it was salt water, it is likely corroded and will be damaged mechanically. If it was sweet water, you may be lucky and after it dries it may work again. You could try using a hair blower to dry it. If that does not help, there may be some small particles inside preventing the membrane from vibrating. Probably nothing much you can do about that.
