Why is the Spinning Wheel On Mac Happening

I keep on getting the spinning wheel much to often every time I go to do something it spins. I was told that the hard drive is going bad. I have used super duper to back up my drive for the past year or so. I did have a problem the last back up and there was a bad file that Shirt Pocket helped me with and told me how to delete this bad file and then I was abel to complete the back up. My question is some person told me not to use the clone on the new hard drive because it would make the new drive bad too. Is this true? Is the drive going because of mechanical reasons therefore how would a clone to a new drive be in jeopardy? Thank you

Lynn,

If the data on the hard drive is bad, the clone will be bad. Use Time Machine so you can go back to when the file was not corrupted. Please give us the last four figures of your serial number so we know your exact machine. What operating system are you running?

UPDATE

I'd first replace this cable: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Hard Drive Cable Replacement

I'm having great luck with the iTB Seagate SSHD. Get a Universal adapter, you can always resell it later on eBay: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech...

The serial number of my mac is C02CT087DC7C. I am using mavericks. I never did a time machine back up until just the other day when I could not do a super duper back up due to the bad file that I deleted. What do you suggest I do. I want to install a new hard drive. Lynn

Are you answering my question or the other person needing help with his HD Cable?

I really don't like any of these hard drive cables as they take to many 90 degree bends. They fail constantly. Get the new drive and hook it up with the adapter and format it. Try starting up holding down the "R" key to see if you can get to Disk Utilities, give it one partition and make sure it is GUID. Then see if you can "restore". Why do you have so many different Macs? You ask questions about several different ones?

what are you talking about. I have a macbook pro 17" ! I was told the hard drive is failing because of the constant spinning wheel. I did a back up with super duper and had a bad file that super duper support told me how to delete and I then did a full back up. I was also told by a person (who worked at office depot) that doing a clone will make the new hard drive fail. I am asking one question will it or won't it? If I do a clone to the new drive will I have any problems. As far as how many mac's I have who cares! What are you talking about with hard drive cables???? Who else can help me on this site???

At this point I'll advise you to go back the PRO at Office depot. I answered your question in my very first sentence.
