I have read forums concerning the issue of the left side dimming on a 27" iMac mid-2011. My computer is well past warranty so I would like to try and fix this myself. I just do not know where to get the parts that I need.

Robb, you are definitely not the only one. Behind the left side is a power supply, that apparently gets to hot and damages the display as well as behind the left side of the display, and it is getting to hot and damages the display as well as a surface mount 6-pin connector. You might be able to solder it if you have the knowledge and the tools. For that you would have to take the display apart. Otherwise, the one other way would be by replacing the display itself. disassemble it and take a look at it, you might even consider posting some images of any damage with your question. Thank you for the advice, when it comes time to pop open the iMac, I will definitely take pictures of any damage.
