I have the same problem too and I think warrenty might not fix it depending

on how you borne the headphone jack. I borke mind by letting my iPod go through the washing machine and I do not think that is covered in the warrenty.

sometimes though if your put a little pressure on the conectir it will work in

the left ear phone or at least for me it sometimes works.

It's not less than a year old, is it? Then it would still be under warranty....

The audio jack on the iPod Touch 2nd Gen is soldered onto the logic board. Therefore, a part replacement would involve a new logic board (which is indeed expensive).

Anybody else have ideas on a solder fix for such a problem?

Wrong, you can solder a new audio jack to the board.

Yes, but it is also 2 years old and may have been true at the time due to unavailability of parts....:-)

I had the same problem but not as bad I had to hold it down to get it to play in the left ear but i put a piece of tinfoil around my headphone jack on the the headphone plug in and now it stays there, and I could wiggle it all day long and it stays in both ears, if this works then its a very easy fix

yesssss.. just used the tinfoil trick and it worked. wrapped it around the top of the jack (closest to the wire) to make the headphones fit into the jack a bit tighter.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately I already bought another ipod but at least I get my touch back

I opened it up myself and attempted to solder the headphone jack back to the logic board, the contacts are tiny so this requires considerable skill with a soldering iron, after half an hour and a melted headphone jack i finally gave up and cut it out, then soldered on a a simple 3-wire external headphone jack. It worked great for a few months before I had my iTouch stolen. Good luck to whatever thief attempts to sell it...

I can verify Nick Sweeting's Ipod is still working great.

p.s. Nick, please leave car door unlocked next time, I hate damaging cars.

The tin foil actually just acts as a conductor for the current to travel through the prongs inside the jack. The main problem, is a bad connection in one of the prongs. All the tin foil will ACTUALLY do, is split the current from the right speaker {or the working side} , to the other. It doesnt actually provide Stereo sound quality, it only divides the one current into both speakers. So all your actually getting, is the sound from one of the speakers, and not the sound you SHOULD be getting from the other... My observations have given me the idea that the flat-wide prongs in the back of the audio audio input arent fully connecting to the rings on the headphone jack. The reason, is that its been pushed in too far, and bent in that place. This usually happens when you rip out the headphone jack at a slight angle, or in a rough manner... When this happens, the prongs dont clamp around the end of the headphone jack on both ends, but only slightly on the bent side (which explains why you only hear a TINY amount of sound from the side that doesnt work). The solution.. Take a safety pin, and bend the tip with needle-nose pliers to make a tiny "L" shaped hook on the end of the pin, just wide enough to fit inside the jack. Use the end of the hook to pry underneath from the side of the wide prong, and use the levridge of the pin to lift it out a bit, a little further than where you want it to be. (it will need the extra lift to bend, allowing it to stay in place).. If that doesnt work, then its most definately going to be a bad connection in the main circuitboard of the device.. But as a bonus for the "Foil Believers", It DOES make the microphone on a set of earphones work, if it has one.. Im only 16, and I figured this out within a day.. :P Hope this helps!

All...the logic board does not need replacing. The audio jack can be desoldered and a new one installed. That's the best and most effective way to get the most out of your iPod. (I'd be embarrassed to have tin foil coming out of my iPod just to get sound).

If you don't know how to solder I suggest finding a local pro to do the repair

if you use standard headphones you will not have this issue . if you use ear phones that came with mobile phone etc, you have to adjust the volume / call slider attached usually to one lead on ear phones ..
