Is the proximity sensor attached to the speaker and sensor cable?

Upon finishing a repair I noticed that my proximity sensor is not working. I checked my old screen and found a small block in the hole where the proximity sensor is positioned. Is this a mistake that I did not transfer this over?

As far as I know, I did not sever any cables, unless the proximity sensor is in fact attached to the flex cable. My real question is: can I open my iPhone back up and put the proximity sensor in?

Does the cable just make contact with the sensor or is it supposed to be adhered?

Edit: here are some pictures of the specific piece I am referring to. Note that this is in the old case:

Right, but is it attached? Or can I just put the part back in the other screen's hole and put the flex right over it for contact?

Yea it's attached that part that you seen leftover and stuck to the old screen was just a bracket for holding it

It's definitely not just a bracket; the proximity sensor is just sitting in my old screen, and I think my new one doesn't have it at all. My question is: can I just throw this in the new screen then?
