I have managed to solve this problem on my own after learning more about the device. First, it is important to make sure that the problem is not with the cassette. Try another cassette to see if that one works. If it does not, the Walkman may not be turning the film in the cassettes. If this is the case, replace the film revolver band by following this guide.

My problem was the batteries not connecting tightly enough.
