Erratic behavior when the buttons are pushed

I have a Kenmore Elite HE3 that was in the house when I bought it 4 years ago. Today when I went to start a load the buttons would not operate as designed. When I would push one button it would cause other selections to light up. They appear to be random. The start button will not work and neither will the cancel button. I have tried to reset the washer by leaving it unplugged for over 5 min. I fact I left it unplugged for about 4 hours. I would love to repair it if I am able. Thank you so much for your help.
