Outlook mac not working at all

Since yesterday my outlook mac is not working at all. When I click on its icon nothing happens. I have a lot of my downloaded emails in it which I require urgently. Is there something that can be done?

Diese Frage beantworten Ich habe das gleiche Problem

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Thankx Machead3 but I already have tried restarting mac, ran mac in minimal mode, rebuilding database using Microsoft Database utility without any positive outcomes. However, I haven't tried deleting .plist files as you said it will lead to data loss as I have some very important emails in it and unfortunately I ddin;t took a backup of outlook as I never expected it to break down just like that. Do you have some other steps to get it working without losing data.

Are you clicking on the app or an alias in the dock?

I tried deleting .plist files as suggested and also stopped using the icon in dock for launching the application and launched it from Applications folder in Finder. However, it still does the same thing. A spinning rainbow cursor comes up and goes away. Shall I try re-installing outlook?? Will I lose data if I uninstall outlook and install it again using the installation media?

I am having a similar issue. I cannot open my outlook. The program itself allows me to open my calendar, task, notes, and contacts but when I try to check my email the window does not open. Help please.

I have suffered Outlook crash several times before. Especially at OS update of my Mac system. Multiple failures led me to the only option- Backup Outlook Mac. I tried out a few Mail archiving applications for the same. Mail Backup X impressed me the most. It is fast and offers a good number of features. for more details, visit: http://www.mailbackupx.com/how-to-scener...

This is the DIY hardware help forum. As policy generally we do not solve software issues.

Often when an application acts strangely trashing the preference (.plist) files for that app can fix it. Of course all your account information may have to be reentered.

Also try holding command-option while launching Outlook will bring up a diagnostic window for the app.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it accepted.

Deleting the .plist files will not harm your emails those are in a Database file in (approx.) /Users/YourUserAccountName_Here/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Outlook Identities/->Database. The Microsoft .plist dies are in /Users/YourUserAccountName_Here/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ You can delete that entire folder without losing email data. (make a backup copy first to play safe). Logout then in before attempting to launch the app. To launch the app try using the icon in the application folder-not the one in the dock i have a Entourage 08 client that with Mavericks I had to stop using the dock icon… it wouldn't launch at all but an alias on the desktop (old school) works fine. Go figure.

If all that has failed I'm afraid your db is corrupt and beyond normal help. Perhaps an Outlook for Mac forum is a better place to seek help. Back in the day when I worked for a School District we had access to a database recovery tool (was OS 9 based - no longer have a copy). Perhaps someone has access to such a tool or can point you to a Micro$oft source who can help.

try rebuilding your outlook mac database, it is a common issue with outlook for mac users and can be resolved easily with database rebuild.

Manually you can rebuid you database: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2360509

If that seems to be messy then Outook Database rebuild is also possible with the help of application use: http://www.outlookmacdatabaserecovery.co...

I hope this will help.

Kate - He's says he's already tried the manual rebuild and it wouldn't work. The recovery tool may be what he needs (it was what I was suggesting in my last comment)… if it will work outside the app.… looks like he can try if for free

Verify that your account user name, password, and other settings are correct in your account preferences. On the Tools menu, choose Accounts. In the left pane of the Accounts box, select the account. Make sure you have entered the correct email address, user name, and password.

Greetings,
Peter
