I see great detailed instructions for Generation 1 WiFi iPad but I have a Generation 3 iPad. Will instructions and replacement battery be the same?

No! iPad 1 and iPad 3 are differently assembled, especially when it comes to how the exterior glass touch-screen is attached to the aluminum back frame/case; consequently, they require different methods to disassemble them.
Use this guide for iPad 3rd generation Wi-Fi only model, and this one for iPad 3rd generation Wi-Fi + 4G model.
