My iPod won't charge, no connection from Battery to Brown connector.

As explained in Fixit 'Logic Board'

Of iPod 5G Video, the brown Connector that holds the connection cable in place FROM the battery is very frail.

I broke that Connector and now my iPod won't charge. I can however use the usb adapter and it works as it is given electricity, but as soon as I put off the power it turns off (like a PC)

I can't get into disk mode because my iPod allways says that its battery is low and needs to charge.

I can't reset it when it says that, becuase I just retern to the screen again saying: 'The battery is low and needs charging"

I only want to use my iPod as a hard drive.

Can't I melt the connection cable just to the motherboard, or won't that work?

The easiest way to fix would be - find someone who can resolder the connector to the board - it's not that hard - did it a week ago on a 5g.

the soldering you mentioned will most likely not work - some functions must have a fully charged battery - and the current of the usb connection is to low for that

Well to be honest I have to say that I lost the connector.

And I don't think it's easy to find somewhere, where they have a spare.

Any suggestions?

Is the complete conector gone (the white socket too) or only the brown part ??

the brown part can be ordered here

it's your decision, but using an iPod as a hdd is critical. the hdd's are "weak" - better fix it, sell it and get a good external hdd for that job ;-)

I'm afraid to say that the complete socket is missing.

Is it any use to get a new motherboard in? or should I just sell it?

And if I were to sell it, should I sell the parts or the complete iPod and say against buyers that the socket of the brown connector is missing?

there are not many options for you. if you find someone who is able to fix it, he won't do it for free. if you sell it for parts on ebay - you will get something around 20-50€. if you buy a new one - well, it's not the cheapest player on the market.
