Screen Is Bent Backwards.

Kids bent my Screen Backwards. The screen seems to be detached from the hinge, but can open and close with considerable effort. The effort is only to keep the hinge in line with the screen . I Applied pressure to try and pop it back into place, but I believe a piece may be broken. The Guides only have a screen replacement for my model. I was hoping to see a breakdown of the hinge assembly or how it attaches to the screen in hopes of repair.

Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009 Display Replacement. A new display assembly is around $500, you might find a used unit for half of that.

Hopefully the display got the worse of it. If the body got damaged I don't think its worth fixing (given its age).

See if Mayer's solution will hold things together until you can save up some pennies to get a new computer. - Good Luck!

I got one in with an identical problem this week. She had taken it to Apple and they wanted $650 for the repair. Next it went to Best Buy and wanted a similar amount. We really need to know your model number as the supporting structures around the LCD are different. On mine the frame was broken close to the bottom of the display. We had to disassemble the display and remove it from the machine. The part (just the frame) could not be found and the whole unit was around $460 on the web. So we roughed up the inside, used epoxy and clamps and really glued it into place. We considered tapping the frame and putting in four screws through the outer case but did not as the computer is for a young girl and the fix would have been much more secure but look masculine. I will deliver it in the morning with an admonition to bring it back at the first sign of it coming loose and a three month warranty. I feel pretty good that it will work. Her bill is about $250 saving her $400.This one was a MBP C2D 2.53 15" Mid-2009 A1286 EMC2324

NOTE: I have about 20 times the adhesive on this one as the original. Next one, I'll also use UV cured resin on the break point. We also used a very strong rubberized double sided tape across the back inside of the frame. It feels really stable. I'd put my repaired screen up against an original any day. I'll keep this question updated if there are any problems.

Last four of serial number: 764C

@Cameron - All we needed was the last four digits (which you gave us). The link above is your systems specs and we corrected your model info in the question as well.

von

@dan I was curious as to why Mayers asked for it, and assumed he didn't have enough information. Thank you for all the help though.

von

@Cameron - He may have missed it ;-} No worries. I just don't like posting full S/N's online here (too much info). Don't forget to rate the answers and mark the best one (Mayer's) as the solution to your question.

If this is 2010 to present, fix. If this is 2008 to 2009, the back cover is not one piece, it is glued together. Before you take out your epoxy or glue, realize that the fans exhaust the hot air from the machine directly onto what you just glued together, meaning it will just break again in months.

If it is the hinges, replace.

If it is the back cover, and a 2010 through 2015 machine, replace.

If it is the back cover and this is 2008 or 2009... junk.

That heat's not going to bother my epoxy. Also, just because YOU can't fix it does not make it junk. I just may have a couple of more decades of repair experience than you.

My entire technical career has been seventeen years of people telling me why I am too young to know what I am doing!

In 2011 we built over 120 assemblies a month for a supplier of Best Buy. I have some knowledge of how to assemble and refurbish these.

Vectus LLC & HQtech sell the 2010/2011 back cover. This is the back cover that is ONE piece of aluminum that WON'T fall apart because it ONE piece, not glued together. They made a modification to it that allows you to retrofit the 2008/2009 webcam and wifi card onto it so you can use the 2010/2011 cover on the 2008/2009 machine. This is fixing!

Or you can glue together a very heavy part, that is directly connected to hinges, that force is exerted upon constantly, right behind a bunch of boiling exhausted air.

The dying tantalum cap will drop PP1V05_S5_MCP from 1.05v to 0.3v so it will be dead, right after U9600 develops cracks in the 0.25mm balls that make lines in the image on the screen, but not before that epoxy falls apart. This has no happy ending. :(

Well, I'm one year short of 2 decades on you. I tried a 2010 first screen first but, as you know, the camera was a problem. I'd sure like a link to that modification. It's in my nature not to give up on a repair easily. If I'm given cr*p to work on, I work on it. I also enjoy goading you into a better answer ;-) Is that this HQtech http://www.hq-tech.com. Also, I can only find a Vectus LLC on Facebook.
