Is it possible to fix a broken on/off button for my iPad?

I mistakenly made a disastrous decision: my mom needed to get somewhere, and she gets very frantic. So she asked me if she could take the iPad w/ her in the car. I told her Internet would work for abt a minute- long story short, she took it. She came home with it and the power button was pushed in and completely useless.

I'd been given this iPad OG from my husband's workplace; his cousin was buying the latest model and gave it to us. I've taken such precious care of it..and now this.

So my hubby and I grabbed a pair of tweezers & attempted to gently pull it out- but that didn't work.

I do not have ANY MONEY whatsoever. So this is all I have! Please, does anybody know how I could fix this?

Yes, it can be fixed. Below you'll find a link to instructions and a step by step process provided by the ifixit community.

iPad 3 Wi-Fi Lautstärkeregler und Einschalttaste austauschen

The cost of the part and some of the details of the process will vary slightly based on which generation ipad you've got, the second generation is a bit more tricky than the 3rd and 4th. However, when considering repair, keep in mind that you must remove the glass digitizer from the front of the ipad. They are fragile and like to crack, so you might end up needing to also replace that. All of the parts you need can also be found here on the ifixit website. If the aluminum frame is damaged from the drop, it might require some additional work, there isn't a good "how-to" of straightening an ipad frame, its more of a learned skill unfortunately.

Good luck with the repair

Thank you so much; that sounds doable- IF I had a later version...however, unfortunately I have the first-generation iPad :-/ which is why I'm so distraught. The frame was damaged, too. I'm kicking myself repeatedly for telling my mom, "Yeah, sure. You can take it on the road." DUMB. Well, I'm not Cher, can't turn back time.

My hubby is a kind of Master Tinkerer, though...and an IT. So he basically told me it'd be 'stupid' to try &fix it, I guess 'cause it's 'so out-dated' (that just still amazes me, 5 yrs. is considered ancient now, pfft).

Lol well thanks anyway, man- I'm still gonna try & mess around with it, see if I can @least get it to where it can shut down. Otherwise I suppose I'm gonna have to wait for 1 of his wealthy cousins/co-workers to give up a newer model.

Here's hoping...haha.
