Fan control sensor on power supply

My iMac 24" (Early 2008) doesn't work. Problem with power supply because the LED 1 on the logicboard is off. Then. I've got a power supply and it works!

However, I got one tiny problem but maybe big problem. There is 2-pin fan controll connector on the power supply. Mine is 1-pin as known.

Actually the both of them are not same, circuit and capacitors are not same but the specification is same. The model number is not same, mine is PA-3241-02A1 (250w) and another one is ADP-250AF B (250w).

I check on the internet, everyone handles these power supplies as same unit.

So, please let me know how I can solve this problem. I tried to connect the 1-pin cable to one of pin each but always the CPU fan runs at full speed.

Thanks.

Apple lists different P/N's for many of the systems that use this power supply: 661-4183, 661-4422, 661-4478, 661-4665, 661-4995.

Some suppliers list them as compatible. While many are, there is always an odd case, I think you found it!

I think the best answer for you is to return the unit and try to get the correct unit from the suppler you got the part from or try another supplier.

Good Luck!

Hi Dan,

Thank you very much for your help. I thought it was. However, I didn't change the power supply because my supplier didn't know the difference and not agree to swap them.

I decided to use "Macs Fan Control" to manage the temperature of Fan unit for CPU and Hard drive. It shows the temperature of Hard drive which was quite high. Obviously, not good for the hard drive. So, Now my iMac is a bit noisy, but keep better temperature than before.

I think almost every Mac need the software.

Thank you!

Not good! Sorry. Using software is not a good long term correction. We've learned fixing the hardware is the better solution 100% of the time. You will likely damage your fan system or logic board using the software. Our company has policy never to use it now as statistically we have proof it kills systems. While you have an older system I can see this as a way to buy some time as you save up to buy a newer system. so don't take to long as you may find your self without any system.
