iPhone 5s replaced battery now won't charge and home button won't work

I have a friend, which makes this even worse, that brought his phone over to get the battery replaced. I have replaced all of mine without issue. Getting this battery out was a real struggle. It appeared to have gotten extremely hot at one time. I got the battery out, put in the replacement, then reassembled the phone with seemingly no issues. Once powered back on, the 5s sensor worked, but the button click did not. I also tried to charge the phone since the battery shipped with a low charge. The lightning dock doesn't want to work either. I opened the phone back up the next day to find what looked like a "crack" on the ribbon cable from the home button. This leads me to believe that when the phone popped apart, I damaged the ribbon cable for the home button.

Question 1) If I replace the home button will that a)disable any usage of the sensor, and b)possibly help with the charging port?

Question 2) If the charging port is a separate issue, is there something else I should look at prior to replacing the entire lightning port or is this something I should just do while replacing the home button?

Thanks for the help.

Answer 1) A. Replacing the home button flex will disable usage of the Touch ID sensor (read more here) B. It will not help with the charging port.

Answer 2) Normally I would assume that likely the reason the iPhone would not charge is due to the dock connector flex being slight unplugged. However, the fact that your phone will still register the touch ID input leads me to believe that the connection is secure. Is there any damage to the surface mounted components on the mainboard by the battery connector? Do all the resistors next to the battery connector appear to be there (you can use this image for reference)?
