Wow, was so excited to see this post today and disappointed to see there was no answer!
I'll tell you what I did, but wow, please do this at your own risk!
I just now got it dislodged by pressing the part of the connector I wanted out onto some double-sided sticky tape.
(not that it matters, but this is the stuff I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018NB...)
I then used a small, plastic pry tool to - repeatedly - flip the cap up to get the dislodged part to come off with it.
When I say repeatedly, I mean it took me around 30 tries to get this puppy out. What ended up working for me was pressing it down pretty hard (be careful!) onto the sticky tape, then somewhat abruptly (be careful!) opening the cap up.
My recommendation is to start REALLY softly trying to pry it of double-sided stick tape, then continually use more force. I will say I'm pretty careful, and this was getting to the high end of the amount of force I was comfortable using (both pressing down on the connector, and abruptness of force in flipping up the connector.
You might see, on the metal cap of the connector with the bar code on it, there is a notch in one corner. On one side there's the flex ribbon, on the other there's not. *THIS IS WHERE I PRIED FROM*. I can't tell you whether or not this is key, but for some reason it felt like it may have made a difference.
I figured out how to get a picture on here! It worked perfectly, and, thankfully, the home button looks unharmed.
GOOD LUCK!
