Sad Mac Face & error code 040090

This one got sent into me for repair. I'm getting a Sad Mc face and error code 040090. I don't remember what this code indicates. Anyone have an idea?

That would be ICs on the logic board itself. Do you know if they are removable? If so where would I find replacements?

mayer, try this first while I keep trying to find out more. Sad Mac codes can also have a less serious causes such as:

A non-system disk in the default drive

A bad boot disk

An incompatible system file on the boot disk

No Finder on the boot disk

A sticky Programmer's switch

von

The startup disk could be a possibility. Will dig in the file cabinet of hundreds of floppy disks to see if I can find an original.

von

I get this code with no disk installed. Time for a tear down.

von

Pulled board, unable to determine any visible damage to soldered in RAM chips. Any idea of where to get replacement chips?

We could have similar problems and may be able to help one another in finding a solution. First, where are you (I'm in Australia)? Second, do you get the sad safe following the "dong", and before a disk is inserted? And third do you understand the other possibilities that Oldturkey03 suggested (nonsystem disk in the default drive etc). As far as I can tell none of these are relevant because the 04 prefix to our errors (mine is 048360) means a RAM chip on the logic board.

Looking forward to your reply.

I dropped in a 512k board. Machine booted just fine, so Disk is good. Ran initial RAM tests. All good! Ran extended tests for an hour and a half, burned out the power supply :-(

If you read the question, you'd know it worked.

How would he know that? I just looked again and even after reading through a bunch of follow up questions I still don't know. Why not say 'yes or did not work' instead of giving people a nasty attitude. You had the help from others , too . SMH

Hi,

my beloved really early 128k comes up with a SadMac code 041004 and some fragments on the screen.

I did a quick video on this issue: https://youtu.be/Cql6E2PxGj0

Any advice would be great - if it's just the RAM (I fear so) where to get them?
