Display keeps tuning off

Hello

Hoping someone can assist me with this.

I have a Apple LED 27" display which has been slowly dying. i say slowly because what happens is, while using it for a few minutes, the display just turns off, and i have to unplug the power and plug it back in and then the screen works again.

its important to note that the USB and thunderbolt still works even when the screen turns off.

i have installed all latest firmware updates, and i have even installed a new power motherboard on the device which i got off ebay because someone told me it was power related.

when it first started doing it, it would last almost an hour and then turn off, now its almost a minute and then turns off.

i dont mind replacing the logic board too, although that cost is quite large, i just want an expert opinion before i fork out that kind of cash first whether a new logic board will solve the problem or not.

if anyone knows any fixes i can try, please let me know.

Hi,

Since it is starting to fail faster over time, and given the rest of your problem discription, i'd say it's some kind of capacitor failing. If this is the case, If you're skillful enough you could desolder the old one and solder an new one for a few bucks. I've seen this many times with Samsung, LG and Philips TV's and monitors. The only way to know that for sure, you'll need to open up the Cinema Display .

hi Gillian, thanks so much for responding, yeah i thought it was that too, and i have changed out many caps before, but the caps look perfectly fine on the logic board here, no leaks and bulges etc.. i wonder if i were to maybe keep it running and then somehow blow some cold air over one cap at a time and see if it turns on then maybe measure the temp of the potential faulty and swop it out. although there's only solid state alu caps on the logic board, no cheapies... is it possible for aluminum caps to fail?
