Why does the door take so much effort to open?

I seem to make a lot of effort opening the side door on my camcorder. I don't want to break it. Is the door supposed to take effort to open, or should I get this looked at?

The problem you are facing is very common for this device. If you have a DVD you must retrieve from the compartment you can pry open the DVD chamber with a spudger. Unfortunately the door may not be able to recover switch actuation with a simple troubleshoot. You may have to replace internal components specifically the the compartment's latch mechanism.
