Hold switch not working even after replacement

Hey there my 5th gen iPod video 80GB was stuck in the hold position. Resetting the iPod to factory settings did not fix the problem so I ordered a replacement hold switch/ headphone jack. I just swapped out the old part for the new on and the iPod is still stuck in the hold position. I can physically move the switch but the iPod still registers it as locked. I tried restoring it to factory settings and it is still in hold. Why is this? Can I manually disable the hold somehow? Possibly by booting it in safe mode and messing with files? If a third party OS like Rockbox can fix the problem then I am open to that route too. Thank you for your help!
