won't start with new battery
New battery. Cranks about 1/2 turn and that's it. Battery is fully charged. Could it be my compression? craftsman lt2500 model 247.289150

@mikeyg , Mike, It is totally possible for your lawn tractor to not turn over because of a compression issue. Pull the plug/s out and see if the engine spins good and freely(see 1st link below), if it does then a valve adjustment is most likely the remedy. This happens quite a bit on small engines and is often misdiagnosed as a bad battery/starter. A correct valve adjustment or sticking compression release causes too much compression in engine not allowing starter to turn engine over and which may often give a few chugs and starter just clicks. 1st and 2nd link shows valve adj. and 3rd link gives the various small engine valve adj. spec's, 4th link is to your manual. @mikeyg most likely not a compression issue but a starter issue. Remove the starter see if it works without any issues while removed. If it does it could have some short wiring that prevent it from reaching its full torque

Even though your battery indicates 12v does not mean you have a good battery. First test the CCA of the battery to make sure it’s good and make sure you have the correct CCA battery to turn over the engine.
