Phone won't turn ON or Charge.

Hey there Ifixit Community, i came to you because i think my phone done a short circuit, it was ON and pluged in an inactive USB port on my PC which i've plugged internaly just after.

Then i noticed that the low battery LED on the OnePlus doesn't blink anymore. First of all i thought about a complete discharge. But no charging LED. I've plugged the phone on the power adapter : No LED. This is when i started to freak out.

I've took appart the phone, removed the battery, mesured the voltage : 3.77 Volts. The battery is normaly 4.35 Volts.

Is it a big gap even if there is always a tolerance ?

Is my battery is dead ? Or something shorten the motherboard ?

I don't want to buy a new battery if this won't solve the issue, and i have no schematics to do a continious testing with my multimeter on the motherboard..

Any help is welcommed. Thanks.

Update (06/20/2016)

Is changing the battery will solve the charging, and the fact that my phone does not get detected by my PC ?

Update (06/27/2016)

If anyone got any ideas, like i don't know, a motherboard diagram or something that can help me fix this problem... Otherwise my last thing to do sill be to sell this phone for part and buy a new one. I've seen motherboard on ebay at 200$..

My OnePlus 3T turned off and it wouldn't turn on again or charge. The trick that did it for me was to remove the sim card, turned it on, then put the sim card back. Hope it helps

von

Keep your mobile for charging for 24 hr even it show no response then unplug and keep for atleast 12 hr test.then plug Charger to mobile ..may b at this it show low battery icon charging but if not then do this..:

1} Press power button for 30 SEC.

2}volume down button +power button for 20sec.

3) Still not show response then repeat whole process wih patience... Or u need to replace battery.

I had this problem (phone froze during normal use then powered off) and it turned on again as soon as I removed the sim card. This is the easiest thing to try first!

LI-batteries can be charged about 500 to 1000 times depending on a bunch of stuff. I have a few One Plus One batteries if you can't find one.

bmaz121 at Gmail. Careful because the battery is glued to the frame, see the YouTube video on a screen replacement to see how to get it out.

Hey Guys !! I had problems starting up my 1+1 phone .First thght it had low charge and thus charged it for whole night .But still my phone will not come up. Finally figured out that if you press the power button + Volume down key for a minutes or so then you get a list of options .you need to select the first option to "reboot the phone"

Hi, guys! I had a similar issue: my oneplus was on around 15% when it just switched off. I put it on charge overnight but in the morning it did not turn on at all no matter how long i was pressing the power button.
I went on some forums and saw ppl recommending to leave the phone on charge for 12h and try again - did not work. power button + volume down also did not work, nor did taking out my sim card.

When i pressed volume up + power though i saw a quick message on the screen that the battery was too low on charge (below 1 per cent). I then tried another piece of advice and put my phone on a charge via laptop - and it worked!

I charged it enough to turn it on and then transferred it to charge from a power socket - works now
Uiii, i dont have to go to the repair shop
Hope it will help someone ^^

One thing is sure, it's not the USB Connector, bought a new one, changed it, still the same...

Phone charge while off, but when it's ON, I've the logo on the status bar, the LED shows up. But when i go in settings -> Battery, under the graph it says "Not Charging".

Open up the phone and be sure the USB connector to the mainboard is snapped on correctly. I read replacing the battery if you see any bumps on it. I replaced the charge port, $5, and battery and now OK. If not buy a used phone and swap out the mainboard $40. You'll have to give the carrier the new IME number if so.

Hi Thomas

i think it is better you can go to a local repaire service guy to identify the root caused: Battery issue/power IC issue/CPU Issue/USB Board.

1. battery issue, it is easy to replace with a battery and fixed it.

2. if it is concern to motherboard, i think it is not easy for you identify it, it maybe need replace with a motherboard.

3. if it is USB Board issue, it will be easy to buy a USB Board.

Thanks

Jack.

Sometimes on a dead phone you have to hold the power button for a long time. Mine would vibrate but not turn on. but after a USB port and Battery change it worked. If you don’t feel the vibrate from the power button hold then you may have a broken power button $2.50. You can send me the phone and I will try to revive it. $50 not including parts.

It’s a great phone and worth it if your strapped for cash.

I had the same symptoms on my phone, wouldn’t go past 50%, wouldn’t really show it’s discharging. I would reset it a million times, and sometimes while powered up I would get in and it would go back to normal. Oddly enough I noticed that when i would set my phone down, it would revert back to the 50% and the LED charging light would turn off again. So… I wondered, hmm maybe it is the USB port, i forced the charger pin inside the port down a bit, hooked up the cable and pull it down a bit (my cable isn’t in top notch shape but it works). AAAnnnndddd VOILA,,,, charging LED turned on, and the battery went back to normal and it would say charging again, fiddling with the cable a bit or pulling it in the wrong direction and boom the light would turn off and we’re back to zero. So, in my case, it is a damaged port, I mean the phone is well over 5 years old now and it’s still going.

My solution, really pull down on the pin and it’s been working for a day now again. I ordered a replacement usb port and a battery just in case, but those things take time to get to me (1-2 months). For now it’s fine, I do have a oneplus 7 pro i bought recently as my main phone now, but I’m determined to restore my OPO back to normal with those fixes.

(SOLVED) you will need an EDL deep flash cable and some basic tech skills and know how, My oneplus 8t had gone dead after I carelessly flashed the wrong XML img to my phone meant for a variant with different ram. I had seriously thought my phone was super bricked. I tried everything from letting it sit until the battery would normally be dead and then charging for a 12-14hr cycle, and then turning back on with every button combination for every conceivable time intervals possible , both plugged into and unplugged (computer & wall charger). I even made myself an EDL deep flash cable and tried combinations with that. Nothing worked and I was close to writing it off, but then I thought, most phones have test pins for EDL mode, if the deep flash cable doesn't work. Heres what I did. Take a heat gun and heat the back of the phone around the outside to soften adhesive, take a card or thin plastic object and carefully pry off the back. You will want to remove the camera modules with has 4-5 tabs to the board, this will expose the two EDL test pins. Before shorting them out, disconnect the battery and more importantly, HOLD DOWN POWER BUTTON FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS TO DRAIN ALL POWER! Then reconnect the battery and immediately short the pins for at least 10-15sec. Then connect EDL cable first to your phone, then while holding the button on the cable, connect to PC. You should have the MSMTOOL ready and waiting for device at this point. If the phone is not acknowledged as connected by p.c at this point, LEAVE IT CONNECTED, and vol+, vol- and power at the same time for 10-15 seconds. This is what saved my phone, I hope that it helps to save yours as well..
