Backlight stopped working, is self-repair an option?

Small spill on keyboard and the back light stopped working. I tested the lcd with a flashlight and that still works.

I've seen a lot of questions on this topic, but none for this specific model. Any help with what to check would be very much appreciated!

  • MacBook Pro 15" Retina, Late 2013
  • i7 2.3Ghz/ 16 GB/ 512 GB
  • SN #: C02MT1RCFD57
  • MB SN #: C02421501BCFP5219

Edit: The lcd works, but the lcd backlight does not. The computer works when used with an external display.

So... Does the keyboard still work? And it's just the backlighting that's broken or what?

Does it work with n external monitor?

The lcd backlight is the only thing broken. Everything else, including using an external display, works fine.

I've just started messing around with the retina displays but it seems like the screen has so much adhesive that it seems impossible to replace without breaking it. Maybe if you use a heat gun, that will soften the adhesive enough that you could pull it up.
